And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch.” Mark 14: 34

Dear friend,

Jesus said to his disciples, “Let these words sink into your ears: ‘the Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” But they did not understand this saying.’ Luke 9: 44-45

The disciples were foretold but they had no real idea until after Jesus was arrested and taken prisoner what great suffering Jesus would actually endure. We now know the intensity of suffering and great sacrifice Jesus endured on our behalf. 24 ‘He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.’ 1 Peter 2:24

In the Garden of Gethsem′ane Jesus asks: “Could you not watch one hour? 38  Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Mark 14: 37-38

During this sacred Holy Week “could you not watch and pray” for Jesus’ sake?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help us to be ever mindful of the suffering and death your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, endured for our sake. Fill us with the Holy Spirit and enlighten us that we may humbly and contritely give honor and glory to Jesus during this Holy Week and then to keep the Spirit burning in our hearts for always.

Continue to watch over the Ukraine, its people, their valiant soldiers and their dedicated leaders. Please bring about the end of their war and help them to rebuild their country and their lives.

We graciously ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

‘We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.’

May God be with you and may He continue to protect and guide you and yours!

Peace, love, joy and thanksgiving in Christ Jesus, our Savior!
