“So he (the prodigal son) arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him”. Luke 15: 20

Dear friend,

Today’s Gospel, one of my favorites, taken from the holy Gospel according to Luke 15: 1-3, 11-32, is the parable of the prodigal son and his genuinely sincere, unconditionally loving and immensely compassionate father. Please reread this beautiful story of repentance and forgiveness.

Do you have a relative in your life who you felt safe and secure with; someone you could always go to if you had a problem to solve or when you visited them, they always made you feel like all was right with the world? My dad was that person for me.

After my divorce, I became a single mom of 3 children. After about 2 years, I ran into financial difficulties which forced me to sell our family home, give up physical custody of my 3 children to their father and move in with my parents. One day just after I moved in, I returned home upset after spending a very unsettling day with my children.  Before going up to my new home, an ‘in-law’ apartment in the attic of my parent’s home, I peeked in to the kitchen to say hello to my parents. I only saw my mom who said something to me. I don’t remember what it was, but it upset me further. I was so upset that I slammed the kitchen door and ran up the stairs crying. Within a few minutes my father, who must have been sitting out of site around the corner of the kitchen witnessed the altercation between my mom and I, followed me upstairs. He walked in and just stood there. Just his loving presence made me feel that ‘all will be right with the world’. *

God is like that. He comes to you when you most need him. He doesn’t judge; he’s simply there for you because he loves you unconditionally.

Whatever you need to talk to God about know that he is your genuinely sincere, unconditionally loving and immensely compassionate Father. Run to Him if He isn’t already running to you.

*Footnote: I must tell you that my mom and I loved each other very much but I realized soon after this unfortunate scenario that she was afraid and upset for me. She just didn’t know how to deal with it all.

Prayer:

Dear Father God, thank you for the unconditional love you have for each and everyone of us. Help us to never doubt your love and your promise of eternal salvation through Christ our Lord. We humbly ask that you continue to watch the countries earnestly helping to give aid to the people of the Ukraine. Oh God, bring peace to our world, forgive us our sins and show mercy. Amen

May God be with you and may He continue to protect and guide you and yours!

Peace, love, joy and thanksgiving in Christ Jesus, our Savior!
