‘Blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways.’ Psalm 128

Dear friend,

Well, 2021 has come to a close and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I was hoping and praying that we would have seen an end to COVID and all the variants that have come around. Sadly, and in many cases tragically, we have entered into a 3rd year plagued by them. Let us not forget to continue praying for all those caring for those affected, for those suffering and for their families and that this virus will very soon be over.

January 1st 2022 readings reflect upon God’s wishes for His people, The Book of Numbers 6:22-27 The Lord said to Moses: “Speak to Aaron and his sons and tell them: This is how you shall bless the Israelites. Say to them: The Lord bless you and keep you! The Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace! So shall they invoke my name upon the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

I love this reading, what a beautiful and powerful verse to memorize for yourself to help you through all the days of your life, “The Lord bless you and keep you! The Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!”

Instead of fearing the worst, walk in faith. Unless we walk in God’s ways, we do need to fear Him. We need to be an instrument of holiness and righteousness so that we may better snuff out the evils of this world. We need to discipline our lives to include more time with God.

God is a truly gracious, merciful and absolute loving Father but like a good father He has rules that we need to live by each and every day. We need to follow those rules, to be strong and discipline our lives to avoid the evils and temptations of this world and there are so very many. When you feel weak and in doubt of your actions call upon God to help you through it. Walk away from the temptation trusting God to give you the strength to do so.

The other readings for January 1st 2022 are Psalm 67, Galatians 4:4-7 and the holy Gospel according to Luke 2:16-21 read these to help you through your week.

If you haven’t made this resolution already, read and absorb the Bible. A thorough way to manage this is to find yourself a copy of the Catholic One Year Bible by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. ISBN-13 978-0842362061. There are also other excellent versions of a ‘One Year Bible’ available so search out the one that speaks to you and soak it up.

My friend, you will not regret spending time with God’s Word. It will arm you to handle the kinds of challenges you face every day.

May God bless you and keep you forever in His care and grace.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, fill us with the strength and discipline to set time aside to be with you in your Word. Our world is in a sad state right now but we can get through this by being a guiding light for others helping them to build up their faith in you and we can do this by reading your Word, absorbing its wisdom to help us become righteous in your site and in the site of those around us.

May God be with you and may He continue to protect and guide you and yours!

Peace, love, joy be with you all through the new year!
