Dear friend,
This past Sunday, the Second Sunday of Advent, was celebrated and the Gospel Reading talked about John the Baptist proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
The way to prepare our hearts for Christ Jesus’ coming is to admit that we are not perfect, that we have sinned and in need of God’s mercy, to practice what the Bible teaches, to pray and to show kindness to one another especially to those in desperate need. Put aside the ‘busy-ness’ of the day and really focus on the business of God and His desire for us to truly know Him. This is the way prepare for ‘the way of the Lord and make straight his paths‘. We, who are so unworthy – to stand before our Lord – are loved in spite of our sinfulness; ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.’ John 3:16
I hope, dear friend, that you are frequently taking time during this busy season to sit quietly and reflect on the true reason for the season and to ask God to speak to you and to fill your heart with His wisdom, His love and His peace. During this time of reflection I believe that God will gently let you know how very important and precious you are to Him. He may even ask you to present a gift to Him this Christmas; nothing expensive and if you wish it readily available, He wants your love and for you to accept His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ; for in accepting Christ and His teachings you will have in return God’s righteousness and promise of heaven.
Additional Bible Reading:
December 8 is the feast of the Immaculate Conception
Luke 1: 26-33 26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Hail, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”[c] 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High;
and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever;
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
