Dear friend,
Recently I heard a thought-provoking line from a movie, Signed, Sealed, Delivered – Lost Without You, where one of the main characters quotes a colleague, who had recently died, “death is nothing to be scared of, honey… But it is something to prepare for.”
There is so much fear and uncertainty in our world today especially with the war in the Ukraine and the many shootings going on throughout our country that people do not feel safe.
We cannot allow the evil doings of evil doers to stop us from living life to the fullest – this is not God’s wish for our lives. What God wants is for us to prepare ourselves and our families by ‘dwelling in (Him) the shelter of the Most High’. God is there for us and we need to be there for Him by honoring and glorifying Him throughout our daily lives and by teaching our children to honor and glorify Him as well.
9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, 10 and requites to their face those who hate him, by destroying them; he will not be slack with him who hates him, he will requite him to his face. 11 You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you this day. Deuteronomy 7: 9-11
I found a beautiful commentary* online regarding Psalm 91 that speaks of God’s covenant with His people and on the statutes and ordinances He asked us to obey, recorded in Deuteronomy.
*‘Obeying the covenant is meant to be a source of blessing, prosperity, joy, and health for God’s people. As Paul says, “The law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good” (Rom. 7:12), and “Love is the fulfilling of the law” (Rom. 13:10).
‘…….. obedience to God’s covenant is the overarching theme running through the book of Deuteronomy. …… the theme is sounded on many brief occasions throughout the book, and Moses returns to it in his final speech at the end of his life in chapters 29 and 30.’
‘……if God’s people lived according to His covenant, the world would be a better place for everyone. Of course, the Christian witness is that we are not capable of fulfilling the law through any power we possess. That is why there is a new covenant in Christ, in which God’s grace is made available to us through Christ’s death and resurrection, rather than being limited by our own obedience. By living in Christ, we find that we are able to love and serve God, and that we do after all, receive the blessings described by Moses, in part in the present day, and in full when Christ brings God’s kingdom to fulfillment.’ *Statutes and Ordinances (Deuteronomy 4:44-28:68) Bible Commentary/Produced by TOW Project
Dear friend, please find the time to read Psalm 91 and the Theology of Work online commentary. I believe it will enrich your life and give you the peace of mind that by truly and faithfully following God’s commandments, His statutes and ordinances for your lives, that it will prepare you for the glory of God’s Kingdom.
Prayer:
God Most High, we ask you to forgive the times when we are not attentive to your commandments, statutes and ordinances but that we will, from this day forward, be ever mindful of them setting an example to our children, our families and our community.
Please be with the people of Ukraine and their battle for their freedom and the freedom of their country.
Deliver us from the evil that plagues our country during these violent times.
We humbly ask this in the name of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
Amen
May God be with you and may He continue to protect and guide you and yours!
Peace, love, joy and thanksgiving in Christ Jesus, our Savior!
