Dear friend,
Sunday’s readings – Acts of the Apostles 10: 25-26, 34-35, 44-45, 1 John 4;7-10 and The Holy Gospel according to John 15:9-17 – spoke of truth and love. This past Sunday we also celebrated Mother’s Day. A beautiful day to commemorate this incredibly important and unperilled role in the world – so many believe that every day should be Mother’s Day, I for one, so I pray you keep the mother figure in your life in highest esteem, love her and treat her with the utmost respect – 24/7, 365+ days a year.
The role of a mother is very challenging to say the least and our feelings often get involved; there are times in my life when one of those challenges for me, as a mother, is when I have expectations of my own children, around special events, but when those expectations do not come about I can feel let down and discouraged. What lifts me out of this mood is knowing that I, and we all can, have great and never failing expectations of God and His great love for us.
I truly believe that we all want for our children to know the truth and to feel loved in return; including the truth in Christ Jesus and the love that God has for all mankind.
Dear friend, love God with all your heart and love one another as He loves us. This is the greatest example you can set for your children – your family. To site 1 John 4:8 ‘Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of God was revealed to us; God sent his only Son to the world so that we might have life through him. In this is love; not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.’ And in John’s Gospel Jesus said, “If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.”
Prayer:
Dear and loving God, help us to remember how very much you love us and that you want what is best for us just as a mother loves and wants what is best for her children. Keep us ever mindful of the sacrifice your Son endured on the cross for our sins that we may live for all eternity with you and our loved ones who have gone before us.
Let me hear Your faithfulness [your unfailing love] in the morning,
For I trust in You;
Teach me the way in which I should walk;
For to You I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8
May God bless you and yours and keep you all in HIs loving care!
Peace, love and joy in Christ Jesus our Savior,
Marie Antoinette
